Welcome through Fred’s
Garden Gate! As times become more financially challenging,
most of us are looking for ways to reduce spending. Even
better than that: getting in a little reusing of resources in the bargain.
It's always bothered me that I've had to buy things that, given the right circumstances, might've been made—and made to serve the same purpose—out of something that, when it's original usefulness has expired, is routinely tossed into the trash. That was brought home rather abruptly a couple weeks ago when one of our Venetian blinds came crashing to the floor in a heap of broken cords (and quite a bit of dust). Well, I thought, what could I use that mess for? The slats were thin-ish plastic; there were about 48 of them about 3 feet long each. Let me see..... If I cut them into 4" or 5" lengths, cut a point on one end..... Hey! Plant labels for which I've been spending nearly a nickel apiece for years! And that's about all that needs to be said....so here come the pictures: (Yes...yes, I know...you can also use washed milk jugs for the same purpose. But this...is better!) Hover
over each photo for the caption...click for a closer view. |
